2008-01-31Staff Report 2 By Mungu Mutimani WINDHOEK Acting Head of Corporate Affairs at the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) Rio Jossop says the fund is finalising a new bill that unlike the current one will make provision for compensation to all road accident victims. He said the new bill is being formulated and will ensure that all road accident victims, apart from those under intoxicating substances, those on criminal missions and unlicensed drivers are catered for irrespective of how an accident occurs. He explained the new law will not look at who caused the accident but will look at the people who have been deprived of a breadwinner unlike the current law. MVA is a statutory fund established shortly after independence in 1990 by an act of Parliament. Its main objective is to compensate people killed and injured in road accidents. The fund was created because of the many road accidents that occur in Namibia that cause substantial and widespread suffering and loss to victims and their families. 2008-01-31Staff Report 2
