NFA needs N$1.2 million for Cosafa Cup team
Windhoek - Namibia Football Association (NFA) president Frans Mbidi says the association’s headship has been having sleepless nights trying to figure out how the national U/20 football team will participate in next month’s Cosafa Cup – considering the current taut financial climate. Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, Mbidi disclosed that the NFA needs about N$1.2 million to ensure that Namibia participates in this year’s Cosafa U/20 Cup slated for South Africa starting December 7-16. As matters stand, the NFA is in no position to fund the team’s trip to South Africa and according to Mbidi, they have been working around the clock talking to various stakeholders trying to source funds that would enable Namibia to prepare themselves better and participate in next month’s championships. “Again I’m calling for corporate Namibia to please come on board and assist in whatever little way they can. We need at least N$1.2 million to make sure our boys participate in next month’s Cosafa Cup and also to host a few training camps for them before they depart for South Africa. So that is the challenge we are faced with at the moment and I hope someone will come on board and assist us,” said Mbidi. He continued: “Despite the well-known financial challenges, Namibia must participate in next month’s Cosafa Cup and that means we have to do everything possible to make sure we participate.” Namibia has been drawn against Angola, Seychelles and Mauritius in Group C of this year’s Cosafa U/20 Cup.
