NFCPT donates ICT equipment to needy schools
Windhoek The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernhardt Esau, handed over scholarly information and communication technology [ICT] equipment to 23 schools, both primary and secondary, on behalf of the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT), during the National Fish Consumption Day launch held in Walvis Bay on August 12. During the handover Esau placed emphasis on the fishing fraternity and corporate Namibia to continue with their support towards the NFCPT, as their unwavering backing enables the trust to reach out to all Namibians from all walks of life. The donations, which form part of the NFCPT Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, are valued at N$273 600. The donated ICT equipment consisted of laptops and printers. The identified schools, which were recipients of the ICT equipment, are all from the Omusati Region. The Namibian fishing fraternity, inclusive of corporate Namibia, made the donations possible through pledges and contributions to the NFCPT during the gala dinner held at Outapi on National Fish Consumption Day 2015. The NFCPT will host the 5th annual National Fish Consumption Day 2016 in the Oshana Region under the auspices of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, with the theme ‘Oshana meets the ocean’, from September 30 to October 1. This year’s event will see the introduction of the Cook-Off Competition, where participants will be challenged to a time-based cooking preparation exercise to prepare a three-course meal using horse mackerel as their main ingredient. The three winners will walk away with cash prizes as part of their participation, ranging from N$1 000 to N$5 000.
