Nghinamwaami returns to Swapo fold

WINDHOEK – Businessman and former City of Windhoek senior executive, Hafeni Nghinamwaami, has returned to Swapo Party from the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), along with seven other former RDP members.

“There were things that were not right that I thought will change but it was not the case,” Nghinamwaami said yesterday after receiving his membership card from Swapo Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba. “I returned because the platform is better here to play a political role. It was not an easy decision,” Nghinamwaami said.

“You came home in time. There is nothing better than welcoming back lost brothers. This is a year of elections and to receive members is always a good feeling,” said Mbumba.

Mbumba however cautioned that seasonal or temporary members would not be entertained.

The others who joined the ruling party are Maria Shileka, Edward Geinub, Tsharongo Johannes, Werner Veiko, Fiona Touros, Elias Mwapopile and Tuvangapi Haileka.

Nghinamwaami said the decision to return to Swapo had nothing to do with the upcoming elections, but because “there is a better platform to play a political role in the ruling party” and also partly because things that he hoped would change in RDP never changed.

He said he had no leadership ambitions in the party, adding: “I have been an ordinary member of Swapo before so this is nothing new but if it [position] comes my way then so be it.”
