NHU coaching clinics gets underway
Windhoek The Namibian Hockey Union (NHU) and its sponsor Bank Windhoek will conduct coaching clinics for coaches and learners in the //Karas Region at Keetmanshoop starting today until Friday. The NHU and Bank Windhoek started with the three-year development programme aimed at re-introducing hockey to all 14 regions. Through this initiative, the NHU and Bank Windhoek managed to introduce the game to Hardap, Kavango, Zambezi and Khomas regions. This year they will introduce the game to six regions. This year’s beneficiaries will be //Karas, Omaheke, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Kunene and Oshana regions. The programme looks at introducing hockey to 1 400 new learners and at least 80 coaches. The following primary schools from Keetmanshoop will attend the coaching clinics: Don Bosco, Kronlein, St Mathias and Mina Sachs. These four schools will receive equipment sponsored by Bank Windhoek. One hundred and twenty learners and 10 coaches will take part in the //Karas regional festival scheduled for the Keetmanshoop Stadium. The particular programme is earmarked to develop hockey at grass-roots level, and will only focus on four schools per region. Other school coaches are more than welcome to attend the coaching clinics, but will not get the sponsored equipment. This programme is only for U12 boys and girls, with each school requested to identify 15 boys and 15 girls born in 2004 or younger. Each school should also identify one or two coaches to attend the coaching clinics. During the 2nd term (June – July) league matches will be played between the four schools in all the regions introduced to hockey since 2015 and any other school having their own equipment.
