In its strive to establish facilities that create safe living environments which is critical to the wellbeing of its citizens, the//Kharas Regional Council played a pivotal role during the inauguration of a police station at Noordoewer last week.

Governor Aletha Frederick argued that the police station will immensely contribute towards the maintenance of law and order as it is the place where crimes can be investigated and reported, instead of the public having to travel to Karasburg as was the case before.

It also saves them transport costs and secures the expedited delivery of public protection services.

“It will, furthermore, instil a sense of trust in government by residents of this border town in terms of their own safety and that of their belongings,” she added.

She said the facility, comprising of a charge office, two staff houses, police barracks and a fuel station will now create an enabling and safe living environment for police officers at the border post.

“This clearly demonstrates government’s commitment to, as a means of providing for the safety and the protection of people and their belongings, bringing such security services closer to grassroots level and the areas surrounding Noordoewer,” she said. 

Frederick also called on citizens to come forward and report crimes and other safety concerns to the stationed law enforcement officers.

“Therefore, I would like to appeal to both parties to establish and nurture this mutual beneficiary relationship to serve their best interests as it is critical for the maintenance of public safety and effective policing,” she said.
