Northlands Medical Centre now operational
WINDHOEK - Residents in and around the Oshikoto Region’s capital of Omuthiya will no longer have to travel long distances to access medical services thanks to the completion of the ultra-modern Northlands Medical Centre. Located some 10 kilometres from Etosha National Park, Omuthiya Gwiipundi – usually referred to by its shortened name Omuthiya – has a population of about 5000. The new medical facility, a multi-million dollar private investment, offers modern general medical consulting rooms, a pharmacy, a physiotherapy practice, a radiology (X-ray) practice, a laboratory and dental practice. Northlands Group Medical and Projects Director Dr Joseph Matare thanked the various stakeholders and local authorities who had made the centre possible. “This centre will undoubtedly bring relief to our local residents who for a long time have had to travel to Ondangwa or even as far as Windhoek to get the best medical attention,” said Matare. He said the complementary service providers operational at the centre had helped to provide a perfect synergy that has created a near “one-stop shop” to the convenience of the residents of the town and those from around it. Northlands Medical Centre service providers currently operate standard operating times but plans are afoot to extend services to include public holidays and Sundays. The centre, a unique property that has significantly changed the commercial landscape and private medical services sector in the growing town, was developed by Northlands Medical Group with additional financing from a local financial institution and it is the first of its kind in northern Namibia.
