NPS marks 25 years!
WINDHOEK- The Namibia Primary School (NPS) in Katutura  25th anniversary highlighted on Friday when former pupils, staff and parents joined the celebration to mark the occasion at the school.   The school, established in 1988, was first known as  the Namibian English Primary School and later changed to Namibia Primary School. “We are very happy that the school is growing. This used to be one of the best school those days, and now we are even more advanced,” said Nahason Hinuua Mbangura, who has been a chairperson of the school since the schools existence. The school’s library was rated as the most resourced of all schools’ libraries  in Katutura and the school has been walking away with the number one spot in various participated sports. “We are doing so well in school activities such as hockey, soccer and netball. In terms of academic performances, we are also doing well. Back than the school would emphasise English more but now we are a multi-cultural school with diverse learners from different backgrounds and that is a big achievement,” says Mbangura. The school has only one pre-primary class taught in English and are planning  introducing two more classes for Otjiherero and Khoekhoe. The teachers, many of whom have been there for more than 10 years, believe their best moments at the school are when the children work together creatively and how they perform The audience were entertained by various school cultural groups such as the Oshiwambo, Damara, Zambezi, Ovaherero as well as the school choir. Other guests who were also part of the celebration were Khomas Region Governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua, the GOVERNOR????? of education, Thea Seefeldt and the founding  principal of the school, Jean Alveria.     By Selma Neshiko
