NWR embarks on training to pave way for exclusive service
Windhoek Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has embarked on an internal training initiative for its employees, as one way to ensure that guests receive exclusive and above-standard services. The training programme started at the end of last month at the Hardap Dam Resort, in anticipation of the resort’s reopening later this year. Forty-seven participants, who were interviewed for various positions during November 2014, attended the inaugural training. NWR also took the initiative, as part of the San Development Programme, to accommodate six youth from marginalised communities to take part in the training programme. Zelna Hengari, NWR Managing Director, said the six youths would receive intensive training in the hospitality and tourism industry, through the assistance of the Office of the Prime Minister. “The idea behind training these six youth is for them to go back to their resettlement farms after six months and make sure that the tourism activities on their farms are effectively managed to the benefit of their communities,” stressed Hengari. The programme kicked off with an induction into the hospitality and tourism industry and an overview of NWR’s structure, values and code of ethics. “In order for us to empower our staff, all other training should be conducted by our internal employees who were identified as black belts in their respective areas of expertise. After the training, participants will be deployed to the different camps/resorts to gain practical experience in their respective positions,” said Hengari. However, Sabine Ruegg from Empowered Minds, a Namibian company, facilitated customer service training. The look and feel of a room at the Hardap Dam Resort will be on display at the Tourism Expo taking place at the Windhoek Show Grounds from this week.
