NYC Leader Hails Milestone for Women
"By Suzette Apollus WINDHOEK Juliet Kavetuna, who was recently elected as the first female Secretary General of the National Youth Council (NYC) at the fifth General Assembly says her ascension to the position is a ""milestone for women"". Kavetuna has been with NYC since its inception in 1994. From a total of 13 seats on the executive committee of the NYC, six are filled by women. This is a symbol of the NYC's commitment to the empowerment of women in Namibia. During this general assembly, the NYC passed the following resolutions aimed at the development and empowerment of the youth: -The well-being of the youth in order to ensure health; -International relations - to solicit funds for the youth to embark upon development projects; -Employment creation and ICT - NYC will re-establish a fund, in order to provide start-up capital for business opportunities; -Coordination in youth sectors - the NYC will advocate for the establishment of desks on youth affairs across all government ministries; -Marginalised youth - NYC advocates for the development of a national policy on marginalised youth; -Governance and youth - the NYC should convene a National Youth Convention on the establishment of a Youth Parliament. Kavetuna pledged her support for all youth organisations in Namibia, emphasising that there is strength in unity."
