Okandjatu prepares for third expo
Windhoek - A third Okondjatu Expo & Talent Show has been scheduled for November 23 to 27 and is expected to attract a large number of cattle farmers, small business people and schools. In 2014, New Era reported that the inaugural expo attracted more than 150 business people at the village in the Otjozondjupa Region. The expo will take place at Okondjatu, and the event’s chairperson, Vaanavi Ripunda, said he expects even more participation this year. He said the aim of the Expo & Talent Show is to create a platform for the Okondjatu community to exhibit and promote their business and is an ideal place for those looking for business investment. However, he mentioned that one of the challenges of hosting the expo is the lack of corporate support and sponsorship. “We have not received any sponsorships from any of the corporates. What we managed to do was raise N$10 000 through the Community Activity Service Organisation (CASO), which is a member of the National Youth Council,” said Ripunda. This year’s five-day event is packed with, amongst others, a beauty contest, a music festival, cultural performances and a choir competition for schools. The governor of the Otjozondjupa Region, Otto Ipinge, is scheduled as a keynote speaker at the event, while other speakers include traditional and political leaders from the area.
