OLAF kicks off tonight

The second edition of the Otjomuise Live Arts Festival (OLAF) commences tonight with an official opening ceremony at the College of the Arts Theatre School.

Featuring at the festival opening will be performances by Mbiravolution, Ou Lokasi Cultural Group, Sven-Eric Müller, while executive director for education, arts and culture Sanet Steenkamp will deliver the keynote address.

The festival takes place under the theme, ‘Bridging life and arts in the city’ and is co-produced by the National Theatre of Namibia and the Goethe-Institut Namibia.

The eight-day event will see a host of activities in different localities of the city, offering opportunities for immersive, experimental and refreshing artistic forms to be showcased or installed in public sites, where life and the arts can meet. Activities include free small-scaled installations, screenings, murals, performances and public engagements.

After the official opening, action shifts to the 3 Circles Viewpoint for a moonlit presentation of songs by ‘Spiiriit’ (Shen Nanyanga) and ‘Lvminvs’ (David Beukes).

Starting at 10h00 on Saturday, Something Artsy will offer senior citizens at the Senior Park in Pioniers Park a painting activity, and at 11h00, Johanna ‘NaJah’ Tommasi and Brandy Shoombe will present yoga and live music at UN Plaza in Soweto.

A fire project is scheduled for the Ausspannplatz area at 18h30 and at 19h00, music by Steven Afrikaner and his band will fill the air at Dolam’s Sukkot playground.

The programme resumes on Monday with drama by Unam students at 14h30.

Festivities will conclude on 22 October.
