Ondangwa exhibition expo nearing completion
ONDANGWA The chief executive officer of Ondangwa Municipality, Ismael Namgongo, says the council plans to host its annual trade and industrial expo at the N$14 million centre currently under construction. Although construction at the site is still ongoing, Namgongo said it should be finalised before month end. The expo is scheduled to run from April 29 to May 7. The announcement was made at a media briefing on Tuesday afternoon, where Namgongo said the expo is key to addressing social economic development, as well as to promote the town. “The exhibition puts special emphasis on the promotion of the uniqueness of the area by using the platform to sell the town to potential investors as an excellent industrial, agriculture and tourism development destination,” Namgongo said. He said preparations for the expo are in full swing and council is optimistic that it will attract a large number of exhibitors and visitors. Similarly, the town council has also revamped the once-renowned tennis club at a cost of N$2.2 million to boost the town’s image. “We’re proud to announce that the once-famous Ondangwa Sports and Recreational Facility is completed and ready for use,” said Namgongo. The facility houses a public swimming pool for adults and children, tennis, volley ball and netball courts, as well as mini public park. In addition, council has also demarcated areas within the town exclusively for sports and recreational activities. However, funds to construct remain a challenge. Namgongo said the town council would continue engaging stakeholders - including central government - to come together to address some of these challenges. “As the town is growing, so does the population and their demands for sport and recreation activities for youth, but facilities for sport and recreational activities are very expensive to construct,” Namgongo explained.
