Opinion | There is no one size fit all for success

Daniel C. Sampayo

It’s not about the destination, but about the journey. There is so much confusion and limitation about success in society. Most of us believe success is reserved for those with college degrees. This is plain wrong.

You are not in a wrong country; you are not incapable of achieving what you desire. The answer is between what’s between your two ears. I know this sounds impossible. But it is the truth. Think about it there are seven billion people in the world and every one of us is unique.

We are human beings, even twins are different from each other. One size fits all only works in the animal kingdom where genetics controls the functioning of their entire lives. Instead of focusing on a highway road to treasure island, look for a zigzag road. However, take a road that does not violate the laws of the country or put you behind bars.

Don’t be discouraged because someone close to you has made a breakthrough in a certain direction. Winning is winning, it does not matter who finishes first. In life, we all accelerate at our own pace. It’s evident in society that those who have taken a journey desired by most of us are not all getting ahead quite well. So, be careful what you wish for.

It’s not about what’s in your hands, but what is in your head. It’s sad to say many areas to succeed are not favourable for success in our country. However, clinging to such a statement is a mere excuse. I believe we all know or heard of someone who became an overnight success. The path they took did not require any prestigious degree. The answer behind their success is hard work, determination and action. You don’t get in life what you need, you get in life what you deserve.

What are your excuses for success? A wise man once said, take the first step in faith, you don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step. Instead of indulging in criminal activities, look around you for what inspires you and then take action on such ideas.

“If you are searching for that one person who will change your life, look in the mirror.”
