Opinion - Importance of acceptance and growth

Denis Manuel

I am in agreement with the statement that says life is indeed a journey that every individual has taken up.

Acceptance in human psychology is a person’s assent to the reality of a situation, recognising a process or condition without attempting to change it or protest it. This is something that many of us at times fail to understand because we tend to turn a blind eye to our situations, instead of realising and accepting the situations we find ourselves in.

All this at some point lead us into making decisions that we end up regretting or making at the end of the day.

Radical acceptance puts us in a frame of mind to move forward most effectively. Sometimes we will face unpleasant situations or difficult problems. Those circumstances may make us feel helpless, confused or frustrated. No matter what the situation, do not feel defeated. Instead, just accept the situation and move forward.

On the other hand, growth is the act or process, or a manner of growing, development or gradual increase in size or stage of development.

However, growing up, we all had aspirations or ambitions of becoming someone in future. As I alluded from the start, life is indeed a journey that we have taken up as individuals. Every person fights his or her own battles because at the end of the day, it is always you who got you.

We all at some point grew up knowing that school is the only key to success. We were told that if you want to look smart, have a decent life, drive a luxurious car, buy or build a beautiful house and afford the lifestyle you want, you have to go school; after high school, go further your studies and perhaps become a teacher, nurse, doctor, police officer or lawyer, just to mention a few.

Let me put it out there like this that in order for us to claim that we are growing or want to welcome growth in our lives, we should first accept the situations we find ourselves in.  I am aware that life at some point becomes unbearable due to many arising circumstances or challenges that some people are not fit to face or go through, but we have to take note that everything happens for a reason.

The idea that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger is based on the theory that by going through difficult experiences, people build up their strength for the next, possibly more painful event that may occur.

We fail ourselves to progress in life because we just do not accept our situations, making life seem to be very difficult to deal with. This goes out to my fellow youths out there who are trying to live their best lives. The youth zone is the only time we have to prepare ourselves for the future as there will not be time for you to work hard when you reach your retirement age.

Furthermore, at the point we find ourselves as a country, not so much is going on, or there is a lot going on but behind the scenes, which is one of the saddest things that the elites are doing backdoors.
