Orphan repeatedly raped for years

Police in the Oshana region are investigating a case of rape after it emerged a guardian subjected his 20-year-old orphaned niece to five years of sexual abuse.

According to the police, the victim has been repeatedly raped by the accused since she was 15. The incident was only reported to the police this past Saturday, but police records show the victim was defiled since 4 July 2015.

Police spokesperson in Oshana, Thomas Aiyambo said the guardian has allegedly threatened to kill the victim and himself if she opened up about her ordeal.

He would allegedly visit the victim’s room at night before sexually violating her.

“The suspect used to go to the victim’s room at night and demand to have sexual intercourse with her without consent and then threaten to shoot the victim and himself if she dares tell anyone,” said Aiyambo.

The guardian has been taking care of the victim following the death of her parents. The suspect has not been arrested and investigation into the matter continues.

Meanwhile, in another matter, a 20-year-old victim was allegedly raped by her boyfriend’s friend at Okaandje village near Ongwediva on Friday evening at around 23h00.

It is alleged the victim was sleeping in the boyfriend’s room while her boyfriend was at the local cuca shops.

The suspect, who was with the victim’s boyfriend that evening, allegedly left him at the cuca shops and went to his room where he found the victim asleep.

“He entered the room and started undressing the victim and had sexual intercourse with her,” Aiyambo narrated.

When the victim realised the person she was sexually involved with is not her boyfriend, the suspect ran out of the room and went to hide outside.

The victim followed him and identified him before he fled.

The suspect is known but has not been arrested yet. A third incident of rape was registered at Ongwediva following the assault and rape of a 46-year-old woman at Oshipumbu Shomugongo village last week Thursday.

The suspect allegedly followed the victim from the local cuca shops and repeatedly asked why she does not want to go with him to his house.

The victim allegedly informed the suspect that there was nothing to go do at his house, which then led to the assault of the victim with a dry stick.

She was allegedly struck two times on the back and fell to the ground.

The suspect then took out a knife and threatened to stab the victim if she screamed and pushed her to lie on her back.

He proceeded to undress her and violated her. The suspect has not been arrested as he is on the run.
