Paralympians ready to shine at Nedbank Champs in SA
WINDHOEK – With this year’s International Paralympics Committee (IPC) World Championships and the 2016 Rio Paralympics the primary targets, the Namibia Paralympic Committee (NPC) will tomorrow send a strong contingent of athletes to represent the country at this year’s Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled, starting March 29 to April 2 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The team is led by Paralympics gold and silver medallist Johanna Benson, World Championship silver medallist Johannes Nambala, Lahja Ishitile a bronze medallist at last year’s Commonwealth games, Ananias Shikongo and Tobias Moses, amongst other upcoming youngsters ready to make a name on the international Paralympics circuit. Also in the thick of things is swimmer Gideon ‘The Amphibian’ Nasilowski who will be aiming to improve on his previous performance of last year’s edition, hoping to book a ticket at the upcoming Swimming World Championships. Reginald Benade will also make her much-awaited comeback, while power lifter Ruben Soroseb will be battling hard to secure his chances to make it to Rio. The NPC could unfortunately not take more athletes to the competition as many youngsters have not yet been internationally classified, but however indicated they will work towards getting more athletes classified before this year’s All Africa Games. The team will leave on March 25 and return on April 3.
