Parliament pays tribute to Dinyando
"WINDHOEK - The National Assembly yesterday paid homage to the late Namibian Ambassador to Austria, Raphael Dinyando (53), who died in that country last week after a long battle with cancer. At the resumption of parliament following a recess of more than a month, Deputy Speaker Loide Kasingo said the late Dinyando contributed in many ways to the drafting of various laws that were passed by parliament and that his death has created a big vacuum in the quest for development of the nation. A minute of silence was then observed in memory of Dinyando. Yesterday, foreign affairs minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah informed parliament that President Hifikepunye Pohamba yesterday dispatched a team led by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Samuel Goagoseb, to Austria to fetch the remains of the late diplomat. Moreover, a memorial service was held in Vienna last night where Goagoseb delivered the president’s message. The delegation is expected back home tomorrow, when a second memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Windhoek. A third memorial service will be held in Rundu on Friday, while the funeral will take place on Saturday at Divundu, which is situated about 200km east of Rundu. Dinyando, a former Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting, was a member of the National Assembly from 2000 to 2010. He succumbed to cancer in a Vienna hospital last week.
