PDM youth leader cracks whip on factionalism

Outgoing Popular Democratic Movement Youth League secretary general Bensen Katjirijova has urged party members contesting for positions at the upcoming youth league’s elective congress to desist from factionalism and exercise their campaigns in the most disciplined manner.

The main opposition youth wing is set to hold an elective congress between 9-12 December this year at Rietfontein in the Otjozondjupa region.

Katjirijova said this while addressing journalists yesterday on the outcome of the youth league central committee meeting held in Windhoek last weekend.

He also declared as open the campaign period, imploring those jostling for positions to consistently be guided by unity and vigorously promote and support the agenda of leaders of the PDMYL in their respective regions.

“As we approach the elective national congress, we call upon the leadership and the rank and file of the PDMYL to exercise maximum discipline and morale,” said Katjirijova who had served as the youth wing leader for two consecutive terms.

He also announced that he will not be contesting for positions in the upcoming elective congress due to his age.

“I have done my part, I am a democrat, I don’t believe in the third term –I will let others take over, also even if I wanted to, I am over 35 and the party constitution won’t allow me to contest,” said Katjirijova when asked whether he will be contesting for positions in the upcoming elective congress.
