Pedestrian dies after being hit by car
by Obrein Simasiku Tsumeb A pedestrian was fatally hit by a Mazda pickup on Friday at around 21h00 at Uutala village in the area of Onyuulaye. The deceased, who died on the spot, has been identified as Martha Abraham, 87. Her next of kin have been informed. According to the Oshikoto regional crime investigation coordinator Naomi Katjiua it is alleged that the deceased who was sitting in the middle of the road was mentally unstable. A case of culpable homicide was opened against the 50-year-old driver. In a separate incident, a 27-year-old male committed suicide last week Tuesday night at Onampengu village in the Onyaanya area. The deceased was found hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck at around 22h00. The deceased’s name was withheld as his next of kin have not yet been informed. Katjiua stated the deceased was a teacher at Evale Combined School in Onamishu area and left no suicide note. An inquest has been opened, while police investigations continue. Statistics show that hanging is the most prevalent suicide method in the country followed by shooting, drowning, gassing and poisoning. Slitting of the throat and drinking battery acid are other methods. A total of 17 suicide cases were recorded last year in the Oshikoto Region and so far this year four suicide cases have been reported.
