Pensioner, teenager raped

NKURENKURU - The police in Kavango West on Thursday arrested a suspect who allegedly raped an 80-year old woman at Zigizi village on Monday, 3 January.

This was just days after an 85-year-old was allegedly raped at Sharukwe village in the same region.

“The hideous incident happened on Monday evening at Zigizi village. It is alleged that the suspect followed the victim while she was on her way home from cuca shops. He dragged her into the bushes and raped her,” regional police commander Josephat Abel said.

“The suspect, who is a Namibian male, was arrested on Thursday and is due for court on Monday,” he said on Friday.

In a similar crime in Kavango West, an 18-year-old male suspect was arrested by the police after he was reported to have raped a 16-year-old girl, and proceeded to burn her hut after defiling her at Marenge village.

The young man is due for court on Monday, and was charged with rape and arson.

“It was reported that on Wednesday at [an] unknown time at Marenge village, the suspect unlawfully and intentionally pulled the victim into the bushes and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. The suspect went on and set the victim’s room on fire, and it was completely burned down,” Abel explained.

“The victim’s mother reported the incident, and a case was opened against the suspect, who is currently in custody and is due for court,” he added.

In a separate unrelated crime incident, the police at Ncaute village nabbed a man who was found in possession of pure cannabis at the mobile roadblock in Kavango West.

The merchandise was discovered during a police search, and the suspect was arrested right away.

The police found three packages of pure cannabis of unknown value.

The 48-year-old suspect is being detained at the Ncaute police station, and is due for court on Monday.
