Six perish in road accidents
"Ongwediva Six people including a child died horrific deaths in three separate road accidents that took place in Oshana Region over the weekend. The latest incident took place on Sunday along the Ondangwa-Oshigambo road when a pedestrian was run over by a vehicle while trying to cross the road. The pedestrian, who is yet to be identified, was attempting to cross the road when he was killed by an oncoming vehicle. He died on the spot. Another accident happened on Friday around 07h45 along the Ongwediva-Ondangwa road when a white Toyota Dyna truck travelling from Ondangwa collided head-on with a Nissan Note sedan taxi coming from the direction of Ongwediva. The sedan swerved and hit a tree, before it settled in a ditch next to the road. It is alleged that a different vehicle that was trying to overtake caused the accident, but its driver sped away from the scene. The incident took place at Omaalala village. The driver of the sedan died on the spot. Police identified the deceased driver as 31-year-old Tobias Sakaria from Omaalala village. His passenger, identified as Kalola Thomas, 34, from Olwani village in Omusati Region, succumbed to injuries in the Oshakati State Hospital. The driver of the truck, identified as Werner Jeremia, 42, survived the accident with minor injuries. He was alone in the truck. Three passengers from the sedan sustained serious to minor injuries. They were all admitted to Oshakati State Hospital. Police spokesperson for Oshana Region Warrant Tomas Aiyambo confirmed the incident. Another accident took place on Friday evening near Uukwangula settlement when an Opel Corsa overturned. Two women victims were identified as 51-year-old Teofilia Iipinge and Christphina Shivute, 31. Another victim, identified as one-year-old baby boy Andreas Johannes, whose mother died at the scene, later died upon arrival at Oshakati State Hospital.
