PEYA Mushelenga was born at Oshigambo in northern Namibia on 1st September 1975.
At the age of 9 years Peya joined Swapo in 1984 after the then South African forces attacked their homestead at Oshigambo, where his whole family was wounded and claimed the life of his elder sister Selma Mushelenga.
Prior to Namibia’s independence, Peya served as a student activist in the Namibian National Students Organization (Nanso).
He became an activist of Nanso in 1987 while a student at Oluno Secondary School, which is now known as the Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School, where Nanso visited the school and held meetings with students.
According to the biography from the National Archives of Namibia, Peya remembered the year 1988 as a year of action for many students, as this was the year when they boycotted school and put pressure on the South African regime.
Mushelenga studied political science in 1993 at the University of Namibia (Unam) where he obtained his BA degree in 1995.
He obtained a Honours Bachelor of Arts (International Politics) in 1998 and Degree of Master of Arts (International Politics) in 2009 from the University of South Africa.
His thesis was ""Foreign policy-making in Namibia, the dynamics of the smallness of a state.""
During his years at the university he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Swapo Youth League. In the same year, Peya was elected to the Students Representative Council (SRC) where he served as the secretary general as well as a member of the University Senate.
After graduating Peya continued to be an active member of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) in the Khomas Region.
In 1996, he taught for two months at Nehale Senior Secondary School and worked for four months as an assistant information officer at the National Assembly, before he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a foreign relations officer or desk officer for the UN Desk.
Towards 1998, Mushelenga was employed at the national power utility NamPower where he worked as executive assistant to the managing director, a post he held for four years.
From 2002, he worked as a deputy company secretary as well as the Kudu Gas Project coordinator until 2004 when he took the position in administration and logistics.
Mushelenga has served on a number of boards and national committees since 1994.
In 2005 he was elected Member of Parliament and served as assistant whip of the ruling party. He served as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics, Natural Resources and Public Administration and served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security and on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social and Community Development. He also represented Namibia in the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP)-European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
In March 2010 he was appointed deputy minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Namibia, the position he holds till today.
Apart from being a politician Mushelenga is also the author of ""Nando na li toke,"" a book on poetry in Oshindonga, published in 1996.
