2017-11-20Staff Report 2 Maria Amakali Windhoek-A Windhoek magistrate on Friday postponed the N$2 million fraud case of a former marketing manager for MultiChoice Namibia to give more time to the prosecutor general (PG) to pronounce herself on the matter. Making an appearance before Magistrate Venatius Alweendo, Manga-Nawa Mukena was informed her case will be heard next in January 2018, as the PG has not yet made a decision on whether to prosecute or not. “I was approached by Advocate Malodze in the presence of Mr Sibeya that the prosecutor general’s decision was not ready and he is currently working on it,” said State Prosecutor Tatelo Lusepani. The matter was on the court roll for the PG to pronounce herself on what charges woul be preferred against Mukena and where she will be tried. Having been granted bail of N$50,000 following her arrest on July 3, Mukena faces charges of fraud, forgery, and uttering in connection with the alleged unlawful falsification of 80 invoices between April 1, 2013 to March 17, 2017. The prosecution alleges Mukena forged the invoices for her own benefit. The prosecution further holds that Mukena presented the invoices for advertising services to her employer for payment and provided her own bank account number as that of Kundana (PTY) Ltd. Mukena, who has denied guilt to all the charges, is alleged to have pocketed an amount of N$2,088,071 at the expense of Multi-Choice Namibia and Roger Gertze over a period of three years. The prosecution says Mukena knew very well that the 80 invoices were falsified and no advertising services were ever rendered to her employer in return. She is expected to make her next appearance in court on January 23, 2018. Her bail was extended until then. Defense lawyer Orben Sibeya represented Mukena in court. 2017-11-20Staff Report 2
