Players thrash it out in NTA Trustco Junior Masters
Windhoek - The popular NTA Trustco Junior Masters tennis championship was recently staged at various venues in the capital. The final matches took place at the Central Tennis Courts in Olympia, with the Masters tournament marking the culmination of activities on the junior category calendar, which sees local players competing in up to 12 junior tournaments across the country at various venues in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Outjo. Based on their individual performances, the top 8 ranking players from each age group qualified for the tournament, which each year is usually played in October in Windhoek. Points and ranking in the national tournament calendar and the final Junior Masters also serve as a springboard for participation in international junior tournaments. Junior tennis exposes young players to high level competitions, giving them a chance to test their skills and learn the important lessons of winning and losing in the spirit of good sportsmanship. The NTA this year is pleased to have gained Trustco Namibia as a sponsor for the Junior Masters final. During the prize-giving ceremony, the Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) president Sam Kaulinge said he was impressed with the good level of competition displayed by the youngsters throughout the tournament and he underlined the importance of their parents’ support. He especially mentioned the role of parents and coaches outside Windhoek who have to invest much more time and financial resources to support players in tournaments that most of the time are played in Windhoek. The next junior tournament is scheduled for October 23/24 in Windhoek, officially marking the start of the Junior Tennis tournament calendar for 2015/16. by Staff Reporter
