2015-05-20Staff Report 2 The Polytechnic of Namibia School of Computing and Informatics is hosting the 150th anniversary of the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Networks and Computer Communications, which ends today. The conference, being hosted for the first time in Africa, aims to stimulate cutting-edge research discussions among academics, pioneering researchers, scientists, industrial engineers, technocrats and students. Furthermore, it would propose innovative technologies, share experiences, achievements and discuss future solutions to design applications of networks and communications systems. The conference also celebrates the 150th anniversary of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the World Telecommunication and Information Society. The two-day conference started yesterday at Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino and brought together approximately 150 computer and communications professionals from Namibia and beyond. The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) yesterday supported the School of Computing and Informatics’ event with N$50 000. According to CRAN CEO Jochen Traut, the regulatory authority was honoured to support such a prestigious conference and join the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the ITU and World Telecommunications Day. “The ITU’s support has allowed Namibia to make tremendous strides in its endeavours to become a knowledge-based society and the conference will showcase Namibia’s adaptation of the latest trends in modern ICT infrastructure and technology, which is a good marketing opportunity,” said Traut. “I would like to implore all the telecommunications operators, computer and communication professionals in Namibia, to register and garner information pertaining to the latest trends in telecommunications and networking industry,” Traut added. 2015-05-20Staff Report 2
