Popular athletics course bigger and better
WINDHOEK – Renowned Namibian sport consultant Quinton-Steele Botes yesterday launched the 21st  Quinton-Steele Botes Athletics Course and Training Camp, slated for Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on January 6-10, 2014. Local athletes can again look forward to the annual athletics course and training camp, which provides an ideal opportunity for coaches to work side by side with some of best South African and other international coaches. Junior, senior and veteran athletes have been urged to partake in what is described by the organisers as a “very imperative training camp” which would see participation in track and field events such as sprints, hurdles, middle and long distances, pole vault, javelin, discus, shot-put, long jump and triple jump. The camp is expected to draw more than 300 student athletes from across the country. Speaking at the launch of the camp at Olympic House in the capital yesterday, Botes, who was accorded the full support of his sponsors as they all attended the briefing, said he expected next year's course to be bigger and better, while also aiming to reach and inspire more athletes and local coaches. Botes also announced that they would this Saturday host the Marathon Sugar Dragon Boat Race at Heja Lodge, in which orphanage kids will exclusively take part.
