2016-02-03Staff Report 2 "Windhoek She grew up with her mother and younger brother in Walvis Bay. She attended her primary school at St. Andrews Primary School, Flamingo Primary School and went to Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS), Walvisbay High School and Cosmos High School. She became active in civic participation in Grade 9 when she started debating and got elected into the City of Windhoek's Junior Town Council. “I had the privilege of attending both private and public schools and I believe that exposure of two different educational school environments shaped largely the person that I am today,” says she. This is none other than Sharonice Busch, born in Windhoek and an ambitious young leader currently a student in Finance and Business Administration at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Busch was elected as Speaker of the Children’s Parliament where she dealt with legislative reform and high level policy issues spearheading the consultative stakeholders’ engagement on the Child Care Protection Bill, which was enacted last year. She was also elected as the Secretary General of the Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) where she led students and learners as the Chief Administrative Officer for four years. “I dealt with national policies affecting the youth like the drafting of policies that allowed teen mothers in high school to complete their secondary school career,” she says. She is a board member of the National Commission on Research, Science & Technology, where they foster, plan and implement the country’s National Strategic Development Plan on Research, Science and Technology. “I have been on several international leadership training platforms, in particular the International Visitor’s Leadership Programme. I was on with the Department of State of the United States of America. I’ve represented Namibia and Africa at various international platforms in Bonn, Germany where I reviewed their vocational education sector with UNESCO to advise our Ministry of Education on how to improve our legislative framework in that regard. I attended a meeting in China, where we had political visit looking at how Africa can strengthen its ties with China through bilateral agreements. I’ve attended the UNESCO youth forum during their annual General Assembly,” adds Busch. It was not easy growing up with a single parent while other peers have all their parents but this never defined, added or distracted her from her character. “I had always appreciated what I had. I remember getting my first phone only when I was in Grade 11. I overcome challenges and obstacles in life, by reminding myself that the only constant in life remains change. And in the process of change one undergoes a metamorphosis, which you as an individual must ensure is equivalent to growth, this is the principle I live by till today,” says Busch. She urges the youth to dream big. ""As the youth, we must never stop dreaming, we need to dream as young people, dreams are the first step towards creating the industrious nation we are building in line with Vision2030. Allow your mind to trail blaze with how your future can look like. And take on the discipline like that of a soldier in the army, and you will see that the world is your oyster,” concludes Busch.
