Porsche eyes Namibian market
WINDHOEK – The German maker of luxurious sports vehicles, Porsche, is looking to set up what is perhaps the first dealership in Namibia, as part of their growth strategy in Middle East and Africa. The company placed advertisements in local newspapers this week asking investors interested in investing in a Porsche dealerships in Namibia, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia Gabon, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Tanzania and Zambia. South Africa and Angola are among Namibia’s neighbouring countries with Porsche dealerships. Interested Namibian investors, Porsche said, should demonstrate the “ability to inspire confidence and trust in the Porsche brand, and intense desire to operate a Porsche Importer Dealership”. The luxurious sports automotive maker also requires the interested investors to have “considerable imported luxury automotive dealership’s operational experience” in their own country. The local investors would be required to put up portion of capital for investments in land and machinery. Porsche has the following 7 models under its hood, being the Boxster, Cayman, 911, 918 spyder, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne. Namibians have seen a number of Porsche vehicles on the from the Cayenne Sports Utility Vehicle, to Panamera and sporty Boxters and the famous 911. Apart from the ones on the roads, during the 2011 Auto Show, Porsche presented Namibians with about five models from the Porsche stable. They all had a combined value of more than N$7 million and they were the 911 Carrera GTS, the Cayman R, Cayenne Turbo, the Cayenne V6 and the newest to the Porsche stable - the Panamera Turbo S.
