President intensifies fight against poverty
2015-08-05Staff Report 2 Windhoek President Hage Geingob, hailed in recent weeks for his hands-on leadership, is scheduled to arrive in the Zambezi Region this morning to, among others, assess how the green schemes in the region can efficiently be used to fight poverty and hunger. The President, who flies to Kavango East tomorrow after engaging Zambezi officials, will also inspect the availability of land in the eastern parts of the country as part of his plan to ensure more Namibians have access to land. But perhaps it is the scheduled community hall meetings that will bring Geingob closer to the people in both Zambezi and Kavango East – whose residents would be able to directly engage in conversations with the President. Described as unprecedented by presidential press secretary Albertus Aochamub, the community meetings will serve as a perfect mirror for the President to get reflections on what the poor and downtrodden expect from his government. “It has never happened before that a President calls a meeting with the community to engage in a conversation,” Aochamub told New Era yesterday. “The President will also use the opportunity to thank voters and engage them in conversations on the way forward – regarding their plight.” For two hours today, between 12h30 and 14h30, Geingob will be at Ngweze community hall in Katima Mulilo to converse with residents. This after meeting with the Zambezi regional leadership at the town council chambers, regional councillors, Katima Mulilo town councillors, Bukalo village councillors, traditional leaders and regional governor Lawrence Sampofu. Tomorrow, the President is set to inspect the construction of the Namalubi, Isize and Luhonono road, 40 km east of Katima Mulilo. He will then tour the Kalimbeza rice project, before visiting Macaravan location, where 1 000 plots are currently being serviced.
