2015-10-02Staff Report 2 Tsumeb President Hage Geingob is expected to visit the Tsumeb Smelter in mid-October to familiarise himself with the operations of the copper smelter. This was revealed by Dundee Precious Metals spokesperson Alina Garises yesterday during a visit by the new Governor of the Oshikoto Region, Henock Kankoshi. According to Garises the purpose of the visit was to give Governor Kankoshi an extensive overview of the operations and performance of the Tsumeb Smelter, so that he can brief the president when he visits the region in coming weeks, as part of his familiarisation programme. “The president is touring the nation and before he arrives here we are undertaking various visits to stakeholders in the region,” Governor Kankoshi said in his statement. “The regional governor’s office will brief the president on the regions’ challenges, achievements, and opportunities in line with the sustainable capacity-building initiative the president is steering,” he said. The visit featured an informational presentation and a tour of the production areas, including the recently commissioned N$3.4 billion acid plant at the smelter. Hans Nolte, vice president and general manager of Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb, together with Isai Nekundi, Dundee’s manager for administrative and stakeholder affairs, as well as Barcelona Plaatjies, manager of the smelter’s new sulphuric acid plant, hosted the governor and his delegation. “We are eagerly anticipating the president’s visit to the region to share with him what Dundee has achieved since acquiring the Tsumeb Smelter five years ago and to lay before him our vision for the future. We also want to reaffirm our commitment to stability, prosperity, and sustainability in Namibia, as well as Dundee’s intention to expand and maintain good corporate relations with local, regional, and national authorities,” he said. 2015-10-02Staff Report 2
