Project to collect, donate matric farewell dresses
Windhoek Every schoolgirl dreams of attending their matric farewell party, dressed in a perfectly matric gown. However there are some girls in their final year of schooling who do not have the financial means to buy a Grade 12 farewell dress thus missing the farewell glitz. To help the less fortune not miss that important day, two fashionable and classy friends, Desire? and Elzette Swartz have come up with a project titled “Cinderella project” to help school girls who are unable to attend the farewell due to financial strains. Desire? says the aim of the project is to make a difference in the lives of these girls by giving them the opportunity to attend the farewell by supplying them with matric dress, N$200 each for (makeup, nails or hair, jewellery) and, where possible, shoes. “We are giving away dresses to those less privileged teens of looking like princesses at their matric but do not have the financial capacity to do so. Many girls cannot afford these expenses and it becomes a case of rather not going at all than not looking the part. We decided that if we are able to help then, why not and make their matric dance dreams come true,” says Desire?. She adds that no money will be requested from these girls and they do not expect the girls to return the dresses requesting any teachers who can identify deserving and less fortunate matriculants who needs an outfit for their upcoming farewell, to send her an email in which they motivate why they needed an outfit. “We need the teachers to help us identify these individuals because only the most underprivileged matriculants will be considered.” So far Desire? and Elzette have given dresses to teenage girls in Rehoboth and Omaruru.  Desire? says at this stage they are only catering for girls but hope to extend the project, if successful next year to boys. Also those who are able to donate dresses, shoes, accessories to this cause can contact her at rozitawilliams14@gmail.com
