Rains Bring Joy, Misery
By Michael Liswaniso OPUWO Heavy rains being experienced in most parts of the country have also left the capital of Kunene covered in floods, with most swamps full. Local farmers have welcomed the rains and expressed happiness with new grass that has started to geminate. However, for some residents, the rains have brought misery, like for 32-year-old Thomas Namupala whose yellow taxi was swamped by rain waters last month. The taxi that was stuck in a riverbed was washed away leaving all windows smashed and the engine ruined. More recently according to police reports, a learner at Alpha Combined School from Epungue village who was identified as 13-year-old boy, Nomehi Mbija, drowned in a dam that was full to capacity. It is alleged that the deceased together with friends were swimming when the tragedy occurred. His body was recovered and awaits a post-mortem at Oshakati. His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue. In separate incident, a 25-year-old woman who was identified as Marlin Kharuxas, a resident of Kamanjab, was raped by a well known 36-year-old male resident of Kamanjab, this week. According to police files, it is alleged that the suspect entered the complainant's house while she was sleeping, grabbed and undressed her and had sexual intercourse without her consent. The suspect was arrested and remains in police custody.
