Ramblers distances itself from Windhoek harriers
In an article that appeared in the pages of New Era Sport last Friday, under the headline ‘Tackling racism in sports is like looking for a needle in a haystack’ in our weekly sports column, Shooting from the Hip, it was erroneously reported that disgraced administrator Susan Gordon’s Windhoek Harriers are a subsidiary of the reputable Ramblers Sports Club. Ramblers have since issued a clarificatory statement, in which the club distances itself from the Harriers. “Please take note that Windhoek Harriers are no longer a subsidiary arm of Ramblers Sports Club and broke all ties with Ramblers back in 2003 when the social club decided to link up with United Rugby Club in Olympia,” reads the statement. It goes on to say: “We certainly do not approve of racial abuse of any kind and the track record of Ramblers certainly speaks volumes. “We are in agreement with your assertion in the article as far as racial abuse is concerned and we would gladly like to commend New Era for being the only media house that seems not turn a blind eye to blatant racism, so freely practiced within the predominantly white sport codes. “We strongly encourage you (New Era in particular) to carry on with the excellent work in this regard.”
