RCC Confirms Suspension
"By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Roads Construction Company (RCC) Otto Shikongo has confirmed the suspension of the company's Chief Executive Officer Kelly Nghixulifwa, ""to give enough room for the investigation of alleged irregularities of a governance nature"". ""The board confirms that the CEO has been suspended with immediate effect on Wednesday 23 August 2006. The board believes that it is in the interests of the CEO, Mr Nghixulifwa, and the RCC for the investigation to be conducted in the absence of the CEO,"" Shikongo stated in a statement. Noks Katjiuongua, the General Manager of Business Development and Technical Services, has been appointed as the Acting CEO. Though Shikongo says the board found it necessary not to divulge any details of the investigation, sources have disclosed that investigations surround a luxury car that he purchased for his wife and the alleged settlement of an overdue bond payment for one of the senior managers at the company. Earlier on, there was an internal circulation of an electronic mail pointing to the purchased luxury vehicle after which Nghixulifwa was asked to clarify and respond to these allegations by the board. Shikongo assured that more details would be released for public consumption at a suitable stage. Spokesperson at RCC Gernot de Klerk expressed ignorance over reasons for the board to have taken such action. He referred to reasons given in the media as mere speculation."
