2015-02-18Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK - Having first refused to take responsibility for the crumbling Sam Nujoma Stadium, Buhrmann & Partners Consulting Engineers, the company that built the stadium back in 2005, has finally started repairing the damaged pavilion at the 10 300-seater arena. Just a few weeks ago a part of the open pavilion on the eastern side of the stadium was on the brink of collapse with about five rows of precast concrete seat slabs badly deformed from their original position, causing an uneven sitting and walking area for spectators. Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, the director of Bührmann & Partners Consulting Engineers, Peter Roland, said after some careful assessments they discovered that the pavilion support base became a bit loose or weak over the years and thus caused the deformation of the concrete slabs. “We have however started repairing the damaged section, which I think will take us about two weeks to finish. We also inspected other areas of the stadium but everything was in good shape in those sections,” said Roland. The stadium was completed in April 2005 at a cost of N$64 million and officially inaugurated by the Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma, whom the stadium is named after. The stadium is one of the many taxpayer-funded social projects aimed at bringing football and other recreational activities to previously disadvantaged areas. 2015-02-18Staff Report 2
