Research enhances knowledge - Sampofu
Katima Mulilo Zambezi Regional Governor Lawrence Sampofu has urged academic researchers to publish their work to enhance the broader knowledge of the society. He was speaking on Monday at the opening of a three-day conference on education organised by the University of Namibia (Unam) campus in Katima Mulilo in Zambezi Region. According to Sampofu, research findings can help educate the masses when publicised. “We fully support the idea of research as it enlightens us and keeps us abreast of new developments. We appreciate the research findings that are going to be discussed here, and please be in a position to publish these findings in order to educate the masses,” implored Sampofu. Sampofu stressed the government’s relentless commitment to higher education, adding that a ministry has been created solely for this purpose. “Be informed that education in this country is our priority and we are behind you in all challenges you face as a higher institution of learning. It is for this reason that government came up with a new ministry so that you receive the attention you deserve,” noted Sampofu. Over 100 academics from various Unam campuses across the country and academics from Zambia and South Africa are gathered at the conference. Topics under discussion at the conference themed ‘Pursuing quality teaching and learning for diversity and inclusion,’ include best practices in the teaching and learning environment, education for national development and the importance of mother tongue education. The conference is scheduled to end tomorrow.
