Resort Adds Delight to 'Meal on Wheels'
"By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK The Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino regularly prepares special food for 'Meals on Wheels'. Every Monday and Thursday, the kombi of Meals on Wheels is loaded with 64 and 107 food packets respectively for elderly citizens (60 years and older) all over Windhoek, ranging from Suiderhof, to Academia, Eros, Pionierspark, Rocky Crest and Windhoek West and even as far as the Avis Dam. The elderly pay a small amount for the food, which consists of meat, salad or vegetables and starch. On Thursdays, a pudding is an additional part of the package. Volunteers start at 06h00 in the morning at the Suiderhof Community Centre to prepare the food and to get it ready for distribution. Every Thursday, their work is made a bit easier with fresh and tasty food specially prepared and sponsored by the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino. Says Tony Boucher, general manager of the hotel: ""We started with this sponsorship at the beginning of the year. We are aware of the plight of many elderly in our community and with the rising food prices, it has become even more difficult for many people to afford the basics. It is an absolute pleasure for us to be part of this great venture, Meals on Wheels, which has been up and running for 20 years already."" Ruth Smith, the organiser of the venture, said they are extremely grateful to the Windhoek Country Club as it has enabled them to offer their elderly a good, hearty and fulfilling meal without having to charge too much.
