Why I returned to Swapo - Hidipo Hamutenya
Yes indeed, I am back. Back to Swapo, the party where I spent the better part of my life serving selflessly. I cut my political teeth and matured in Swapo. This organisation educated me, shaped me and gave me direction. Our collective commitment to the liberation of our motherland gave us a sense of purpose from which we never wavered: freedom, justice and equality for all Namibians. We served independent Namibia and her people with equal determination and commitment, often to the detriment of spending quality time with our families. My political life and dedication to both Namibia and Swapo would surely have continued in this trend had it not been for certain events and machinations that would rock the party asunder. I am not going to rehash what happened, it’s public knowledge, but as you may be aware or not, I was at the receiving end of those machinations and lies, which I perceived as deliberate attempts to tarnish my good name. In short, the situation was untenable, and the logical next step was to leave Swapo, because I felt I had no future there and the leadership at that time, made that quite clear to me. However, I’m happy to say that Swapo is once again the all-inclusive party it used to be, where a spirit of unity and comradeship prevailed. The new enlightened leadership, under the leadership of my good friend and brother Hage Geingob, has gone a long way in restoring my confidence in this great party. Swapo is closely associated with my personal history and that of my family. That can never be taken away. It is for this and the reasons I stated earlier that I have decided to rejoin Swapo. This is the legacy of my children and my grandchildren. I thank you and God bless. Hidipo Hamutenya
