Robbery investigation incomplete
WINDHOEK – The investigation of the matter in which five men are accused of robbing the Mamma Fresh grocery shop in Windhoek’s Nubuamis residential area in December last year is not yet complete. The five men - Leonard Mwashekele, Joseph Fillipus, Linekela Hifikua, Abed Ndengu and Sam Eliaser – made a second appearance before Magistrate Alpha Haihambo on Monday, and their case was postponed to April 24. They remain in police custody due to the seriousness of the charges against them. The group face charges of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of illegal firearms. They allegedly robbed the shop of a laptop, an undisclosed amount of money and airtime recharge vouchers on December 27 2013. The robbers initially locked two of the shop’s employees in a walk-in fridge during the failed robbery attempt, and opened fire at the Namibian Police and City Police officers after being warned to surrender. Mwashekele and Fillipus were injured in the exchange of fire between the group and police officers, and were hospitalised under police guard at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital. The prosecutor was Veikko Alexander.
