Sanitation project benefits Anamulenge constituency
By Loide Jason ONAWA - The Regional Councillor for Anamulenge Constituency in Omusati Region, Fidelis Sheyapo, says rural sanitation has improved after he initiated the construction of more than 20 pit latrines in villages scattered around the constituency. Sheyapo says he has improved livelihoods in his constituency during his five years in office and that the second phase for the construction of more pit latrines has been completed and the latrines were handed over to beneficiary households in twelve villages. “There are also rural sanitation projects that are outstanding which includes the third round of construction of two pit latrine toilets in Anamulenge, which is underway and tenders have been advertised,” said Sheyapo. He said more toilets will be constructed at business localities covering six villages. The constituency councillor happily told New Era that all of the 20 schools in his constituency are electrified and 90 percent of his people now have access to clean drinking water. There are two secondary schools, a combined school and primary school in the constituency and Sheyapo said he has mobilised enough resources through the regional council to make sure all the schools are electrified as planned by his office. “I am now targeting to electrify the growth point in order to create business opportunities for our unemployed population to enable them to start up their own businesses,” he said. The Micro-Finance Programme has also made a great impact, since entrepreneurs started to venture into various businesses other than shebeens with the money they received. Sheyapo said there are three projects that are funded through the Micro Finance Programme through which villagers received free tools, building material and start-up capital of N$106 924.
