2016-08-01Staff Report 2 Windhoek Seventeen people died between Thursday and Sunday, the Namibian police reported this weekend. Two of the deaths were the result of suicide; two died from unnatural causes; one person drowned; ten people died as a result of motor vehicle accidents and two persons were murdered, it was revealed by Inspector Slogan Matheus during the weekly crime briefing. The body of 28-yeat old Hifikepunye Ndalandelwamo was found naked in a riverbed at Havana informal settlement at around 05h20 on Thursday. No arrest was made and police investigations are ongoing. The body of another male person was found dead with gunshot wounds to the back and chest areas. The police found three spent cartridges near the body. The deceased has not been identified and investigations are ongoing. Two Namibian males, aged 22 and 21, respectively died at about 01h30 on Saturday on the Auas Road near Namcor Building after they were involved in a three-car pile-up. According to the crime briefing, Danian Maurico Payne and Liam Aschey September were in a maroon Toyota pick-up driving in a southerly direction and crashed into a grey Toyota pick-up travelling in the opposite direction. While the report is not clear it is suspected that one of the vehicles was trying to overtake and that speeding was involved. The driver of the grey pick-up, his passenger and the driver of the other vehicle, a white Golf, were treated at hospital for minor to slight injuries. Also on Saturday, 26-year-old Ndumba Jona Sikonda was hit by a silver VW Polo while he was crossing the Western Bypass. He died on the spot. The partly decomposed body of an unidentified male was found by passersby at Otjomuise Mountains hanging from a rope on a tree. The police are asking anyone, especially in Otjomuise, who is missing a family member to assist with the identification of the deceased body. An elderly female, Rosalia Garises, aged 64, was hit by a car while attempting to cross Walvis Bay Street in Havana Location at about 17h00 on Saturday. She died upon arrival at Katutura State Hospital. Another two persons died after they were involved in a head-on collision on the main road between Usakos and Karibib - about 10km from Usakos - between a BMW and a Toyota Corolla. One, a 30-year old male, was identified, but his next of kin have not been informed yet and his identity can thus not be revealed, while the other deceased has not been identified as yet. The body of a female, Alma Tjivikua, 40, was discovered in the street at Usab informal settlement in Karibib by residents on Sunday. There were no visible marks or wounds on her body and it alleged she was a sickly person. The police will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. A 63-year-old man died after the rear tyre of his vehicle ran over him at Broem Host Gravel Road on Saturday as he tried to stop a car thief from driving away with the vehicle. According to the police, the deceased was driving with three passengers on the back of his pick-up when it developed mechanical problems. After it was fixed the deceased got out of the vehicle to get something when one of the passengers (18-year-old male) got in at the driver’s side and started to drive the vehicle. While holding onto the door of the vehicle, the deceased then allegedly fell and was driven over by the rear wheel and died on the spot. He was identified as Isack Gaseb. The suspect who drove almost 14km to Khorixas, where he abandoned the vehicle, was arrested while footing it to Khorixas. He is due to appear in the Khorixas Magistrate’s Court today. The police at Tsintsabis have opened an inquest into the death of Evelina Lazarus, 42, who died by drowning after she fell into a traditional well at Oshana Shangali in the Elavi Area at about 08h00 on Saturday. A 58-year old man was found dead in bushes near a road at Kongola Village on Saturday. He was identified as Francis Luhambe Muyahe, no foul play is expected and the police will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Mariam Nauiseb, 66, died after he hit a cow with his vehicle and it overturned on the Rehoboth/Kalkrand main road at about 21h45 on Friday. A pedestrian died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle that was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Shankara village in the Kavango East Region at about 16h30 on Saturday. He was identified as Josef Thikundeko. The body of Thapira Mbambo, 43, was found hanging from a rope on a tree at around 10h00 on Saturday at Kahanga village. A police officer died on the scene after the vehicle he travelling in overturned on the Komsberg/Ariamsvlei gravel road at about 12h00 yesterday. 2016-08-01Staff Report 2
