Shaliaxwe, Amutoko win Rössing Virtual Marathon

Runner Jeremia Shaliaxwe on Saturday retained his title as the Rössing Virtual Marathon 42km men’s open category champion after he clocked an impressive time of 02:24:00 to win the race, while Anna Amutoko secured the 42km women’s title with her time of 02:43:19.

Both athletes pocketed N$20 000 cash prize monies each, including an additional N$20 000 development bonus.

The event, which was held under the theme ‘Live to run, Run to live’, marked the second virtual marathon hosted by Rössing Uranium as the mine continues to promote healthy and active lifestyles.

Rössing Uranium’s corporate communication manager Daylight Ekandjo congratulated all the participants, saying the race proved to be another successful virtual edition of the historic marathon.

“A virtual marathon is challenging because runners are all on their own, with no water points, no

road marshals and running on different road terrains,” she said.

Ekandjo added that Rössing Uranium is committed to continue hosting the marathon in the best format that will benefit stakeholders, and is hopeful that 2023 will allow Rössing Uranium to host a physical event.
