2015-10-01Staff Report 2 Windhoek With the Brave Warriors squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gambia set to be announced today, coach Ricardo Mannetti will have to do without the reliable services of striker Peter Shalulile. Namibia start their quest for the first ever FIFA World Cup qualification when they visit Gambia on October 9, followed by the 2nd leg on October 13 in Windhoek as qualification for Russia 2018 takes centre stage. However, Peter Shalulile, who plies his trade with the South African First Division club, Highland, has revealed that he will miss the first leg due to a niggling ankle injury and hopes to join up for the second leg at home. “I got injured on Saturday during a league match against African Warriors. I received a knock to my left ankle and I was at the physiotherapist on Tuesday, where they told me I will be out for about 10 days,” the former Tura Magic talisman said. Shalulile, who was a thorn in the flesh of the Senegalese rearguard when the two sides met in Windhoek earlier this month for the 2017 AFCON qualifier, added that he would have loved to help his country in the upcoming clash. “I’m very sad about this injury, but now I need to focus on getting better and maybe feature in the second leg. It won’t be easy, but depending on how I recover I want to feature. Playing for my country is special and if I’m available I would be ready to play,” added Shalulile. Also missing from the selection list is defender Dacosta Angula, who was earlier ruled out for three months due to torn Achilles tendons in his left foot. The Free State Stars fullback said, “I’m going to see the doctor on October 22 again, but for now I feel much better and have started walking with a moonboot, so I really have to say so far, so good.” 2015-10-01Staff Report 2
