Shipanga Makes Strides in Women's Football
"By Carlos Kambaekwa WINDHOEK Jacky Shipanga, coach of the national women's football team - the Brave Gladiators - has been nominated to attend a high-level coaching course in Madrid, Spain, on September 8 this year. The two-day seminar for FIFA coaching instructors in women's football will arm the veteran coach with the required qualifications to become a fully-fledged women's football instructor within the FIFA family. Next door, the Namibian Premier League (NPL), in a desperate bid to jack up its somewhat fragile image has appointed Meke Namindo, as its media officer with immediate effect. The 26-year-old says she looks forward to the challenge at hand and is unfazed by venturing into a predominantly men's territory. ""Football has been in my blood since I was a toddler and dealing with the media is not something new to me. I've been in this business for quite sometime but my immediate concern is to create a decent website for the league where all the relevant information will be stored and to compile newsletters and annual reports,"" she said. Namindo emphasizes the essence of media and says she will try by all means to provide relevant information through the media whenever called upon to do so. The shortage of personnel in the NPL office has largely contributed to a number of important tasks gathering dust, including the absence of a comprehensive data system and more importantly, the outstanding compilation of the eagerly awaited final log standings from both the Southern and Northern National Division One leagues.
