John Muyamba Rundu Ritha Sindjanga, who won the just-ended Ncuncuni Constituency by-election, will soon take up her new job as councillor. She is taking up the position left vacant by the late Rosa Kavara, who passed on earlier in the year. “We have to organise her swearing-in after Easter weekend,” said the Kavango West Swapo regional coordinator, David Hipulwa Hamutenya. According to the Regional Councils Act, if a vacancy occurs in a particular constituency office, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is required in terms of the law to conduct a by-election in that particular constituency within 90 days from the date the vacancy occurred. Sindjanga won the election with 1,097 votes out of the 1,452 votes cast, while APP candidate Paulus Mangundu collected the remaining 355 votes. The results were announced at around midnight last Wednesday at Ncaute Police Station. “There were 5,243 registered eligible voters in Ncuncuni Constituency. But only 1,452 voters turned up,” noted Maurus Kamati, whom ECN entrusted with spearheading and coordinating the just-ended by-election activities for Ncuncuni. According to Nampa, the ECN earlier this week indicated that there are 5,040 registered voters in the constituency.
