2013-09-27Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK - Thirty-nine-year-old Martin Niimbunda, a soldier of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) who was arrested last month by members of the Serious Crime Unit of the Namibian Police Force (Nampol) for fatally shooting a man in Greenwell Matongo residential area is expected to make his second court appearance today in the Katutura Magistrate's Court. Niimbunda was denied bail during his first appearance in August. The State represented by Menencia Hinda objected to granting Niimbunda bail, because of the seriousness of the offence, arguing that granting him bail would not be in the public interest, in addition to the fact that a police investigation was still in its infancy. The solider then brought a formal bail application, and after a short appearance, Magistrate Constancia Olivier granted him bail of N$3 000. Niimbunda shot and killed 25-year-old Simon Natangwe Iipinge last month in Greenwell Matongo following a altercation between them. Police information indicate that Iipinge was shot in the chest at close range when the two men were involved in an vehement quarrel at the premises of the ‘Kitchener Take Away’ outlet in Greenwell Matongo.
