Spain committed to Namibian projects - minister
WINDHOEK - The Spanish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ybáñez, has reiterated his country’s commitment to projects it funds in Namibia. Ybáñez was recently in Namibia as a special envoy of the Spanish government for the inauguration ceremony of President Hage Geingob, and the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the independence of Namibia. During his visit, he had the opportunity to meet representatives of the new government, reiterated the commitment of Spain to ties it enjoys with Namibia, and expressed his satisfaction for the long-standing friendship between the two nations. On the occasion of this important celebration, His Majesty the King Felipe VI of Spain sent a congratulatory message and conveyed his “most sincere wishes for the personal wellbeing of His Excellency Dr Hage Geingob and for the peace and prosperity of the people of Namibia”. During his stay in the country, Ybáñez had a very tight schedule that included visits to two projects that have been supported by the Spanish Cooperation over the last few years. He visited the Penduka project in Katutura where he had the opportunity to meet the beneficiaries of training offered by the project and who are now able to generate their own income. The second project has to do with the improvement of the housing and services in informal settlements in urban and peri-urban areas and has been executed by the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia and the Namibia Housing Action Group.
