Stakes are high for Desert Storm
WINDHOEK - Still boasting a healthy record of 14 wins from the same number of bouts, Namibia’s boxing sensation Sakaria ‘Desert Storm’ Lukas will, this coming weekend, yet again get a chance to prove his credentials and mettle when he takes on Tanzanian opponent Issa Nampepeche for the vacant IBF Continental African Featherweight title, at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino. The ‘Prospects in Action’ boxing bonanza, organised by the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing & Fitness Academy will accord upcoming boxers an opportunity to showcase their combative skills while competing against world-class opponents. Saturday’s spectacle will serve as a ‘now or never’ opportunity for most of the youngsters featuring on that night, as they enter a crucial era where Namibians are in dire need of another Harry Simon, Paulus ‘Hitman’ Moses, Tyson Ushona and Paulus Ambunda, to mention a few. As for ‘Desert Storm’, a likely victory for the hard-punching Namibian boxing wunderkind should be another huge step towards greater things and a gateway to much bigger fights, but that’s only if Lukas can rise to the occasion and upend Nampepeche, who comes into the fight with a record of 20 wins, three losses and four draws from 27 fights in the paid ranks. In the main supporting bouts, another fast raising boxing star Jeremia Nakathila, who boasts an impressive record of 7 fights and 7 wins, is one of the many youngsters expected to keep spectators on their feet with some blistering action. “Nakathila is a hard puncher, an aggressive boy with a big heart and he does so incredibly with both hands, said Promoter Nestor Tobias. “He combines his aggressiveness well with his accuracy, which is a very rare skill that only a few talented boxers have. I therefore have no doubt that he is destined for a bright future and will hopefully become a world champion. The plan is to ensure he has at least 10 fights under his belt before introducing him to the international boxing arena to take on experienced fighters,” concludes Tobias. General tickets are available for N$200 while a table seating 10 people which includes snacks and refreshments will cost N$10 000. Tickets are available at Computicket countrywide.
