Our Star of the Week: chief pilot Tatu Kegakilwe
Our Star of the Week is chief pilot Tatu Kegakilwe, who this week saved the lives of six people, including his own and that of his co-pilot, Nick Mann, after a Westair twin Engine Reims F406 aircraft crash-landed at Eros Airport on Monday. The aircraft (registration V5-WAY), which departed from Ongava, is operated by West Air Aviation for Wilderness Air and was en route to Hosea Kutako International Airport but had to divert and make an emergency landing at Eros after the nose wheel of the aircraft failed to descend to its proper position for a landing. Aviation experts have praised Kegakilwe’s exceptional handling of the aircraft. All passengers and crew emerged from the aircraft unscathed after he landed the plane safely on the Eros runway.
